Fighting
When kangaroos combat each other feet are their weapon of choice. They are armed with extremely muscular hind legs and large feet. The fights start with quick punching and clawing then it turns into an all out brawl. This is not just boxing this is ultimate fighting. When fighting they use their front paws to grip the opponent then quickly kicking with their huge, clawed hind feet.

They weigh 55-200 pounds. Their arms are small. Adult male kangaroos are called Boomers, Buck or Jack. Adult female kangaroos are called Flyers, Doe or Jill and baby kangaroos are called Joeys. A group of kangaroos is called a mob. Red kangaroos live about 22 years in the wild. Red kangaroos stay with their families for about a year or two.

Mating
When male kangaroos want to mate they will often fight each other to get the attention of the female. The pregnancy period of the Red Kangaroo lasts between 6 and 7 weeks. They will most often give birth to one joey sometimes the mother will have twins. The baby Kangaroo is extremely small when it is born, it is about 2cm. After the joey is born, it will crawl up the mother's fur to get inside of the pouch. Once the joey is inside the pouch, it will begin nursing. The joey will remain inside the pouch for about 6.5 - 7.5 months. Red kangaroos mate and breed throughout the year. Usually a female red kangaroo will have 3 joeys every 2 years.
lifespan
lifespans are potentially long in red kangaroos, although most individuals probably do not survive their first year of life. For the ones that do survive the first year usually live up to 22 years in the wild. they usually live about 16 years in captivity.
Diet
Red kangaroos eat grass, leaves and tree bark they can also go a long time without water. They can travel up to 112 miles looking for food.
Babies
Baby kangaroos are blind when they are born and they have no fur. They spend 6 months in their mothers pouch. Afterwards they join the mob and spend their time playing with other joeys.

Adaptations
1. The Red Kangaroo can survive by drinking water only twice a week. It is able to do this because of the water found in the food it eats each day. During the cooler months of the year the Red Kangaroo can survive only on the vegetation it feeds on for the water it needs. Not only is this species extremely efficient in its lifestyle and water consumption, it also has the ability to excrete salts that are concentrated in the urine to decrease its water loss.

2. The Red Kangaroo has adapted in a variety of ways to help cool itself during the day. One way is by using saliva as a cooling agent. On hot days, the kangaroo will give itself a bath and lick its entire body. When the saliva evaporates off the fur it takes the heat with it, therefore decreasing the relative body temperature of the kangaroo. Red Kangaroos also use panting to as a way of decreasing heat. When panting they keep their mouths closed and adjust the amount of evaporation by changing the amount of airflow through their nostrils. The final method of heat dissipation is by sweating, but this usually only occurs when they are in motion. This works by the same method as licking in that the evaporation of the fluid helps decrease the core body temperature. Of these three methods, the most commonly used and efficient is panting because it does not rely as highly on water for evaporation.
3. Another adaptation that has made the Red Kangaroo famous is its method of motion. The Red Kangaroo is one of limited species that utilize hopping as its method of transportation. It is interesting that besides wallabies, no other large mammals have this adaptation. This indicates that the body structure and shape have also been highly specialized. The tail remains fairly straight and swings less than other kangaroo species. Scientific studies have shown that hopping has a variety of advantages. This phenomenon can be credited to the very strong elastic tissue found in the tendons of the kangaroo that help store energy. It is similar to a pogo stick: the harder and faster you land, the higher and farther you jump.
